As I rapidly approach my 57th birthday and my one year anniversary as a College Station Adventure Boot Camper, I’d like to share my thoughts with all of you.
I have been a regular exerciser since my early 20’s, and have bounced from program to program when boredom set in.
I was in just such a slump when I noticed the ad in the Eagle issuing the challenge to try the boot camp exercise format. It seemed scary. Just the words “boot camp” conjures up pictures we all have seen of Marine Corps Boot Camp. YIKES!! Was I ready for something like that at my age??
The ad said that all fitness levels were welcome, so I decided to take the plunge… |
I turned 50, and the prescription to deal with those pesky hot flashes etc. was hormones; I added 10 pounds.
A car accident did a major number on 2 disks in my neck; I added another 10 pounds.
I got into poison oak and it took, yes you’ve guessed, steroids to counteract that; I added 10 more pounds.
Desperation at adding 30 pounds got me out walking at 6am in the dark. But I fell on a patch of ice, in Bryan Texas, no less, and crunched a few bones in my wrist. Oh yes, another 10 lbs.
Then I saw the advertisement for the College Station Women’s Adventure Boot Camp and has it ever changed my life... |
.I started this program because I was frustrated with my attempts to exercise and diet on my own.
Don’t get me wrong. I have a good grasp on nutrition. I just had no motivation to continue a healthy lifestyle. I was too busy, tired, distracted, blah blah blah…fill in the blank as to why it was not working.
I am 44 years old, have high blood pressure and heart disease was looming like a black cloud in my horizon… |
Nine months ago I was overweight, had incredible back pain, and could not run from my front door to my mailbox without collapsing.
Today I’d like to say I’m at my perfect weight but I cannot. I have lost weight, 4 dress sizes, and over 24 inches, but I’m not where I want to be just yet. I’m still working at it. Hard. Everyday.
I can say that I am more fit today than I have ever been.
I was an athlete in junior high and high school. I played soccer, basketball, and volleyball. However, soon after graduation I began gaining weight. After I went to college, got married, and had kids I didn’t even recognize my own body anymore.
Last summer a friend of mine told me about Adventure Boot Camp for Women. I wanted to do it. I knew I needed to do it. But honestly I was scared to death... |
