“I have to do something about my obesity problem,” would be a constant thought when I looked at my picture or saw myself in the mirror.
Carolina DeLeon... "I would like to share some thoughts about the last five months. My journey with Cliff Latham’s College Station Women’s Adventure Boot Camp, started on January 7, 2008 and can be described as a path of self-discovery, gaining knowledge about myself and my limitations, both mentally and physically. I experienced a change of paradigm about the unlimited capabilities my body and mind can reach if I really want to achieve my goals of being fit and healthy for the rest of my life.
The thought would come and go and be blotted out temporarily until the next time. I was at my wits end in November 2007, when in tears of frustration I commented to my doctor, once again, that I could not modify my eating habits or adopt an exercise program I would do for more than two weeks. I needed help. She suggested I contact Cliff about his boot camp program.
Now here was the hard part…I had to jump off the cliff into the new world of exercise. A place where running shoes, yoga mats and water bottles were accompanied by early morning classes, huffing and puffing up a hill, and actually being accountable to myself and the persons attending the same class every morning. Scary scenario, but I gritted my teeth and entered into it with the promise not doing this halfway. I would commit to this adventure. I would succeed in my endeavor and I would not make any excuses this time.
The changes I have achieved in the Adventure Boot Camp Program are more than the weight loss (although I have lost over 40 pounds).
I have gained a sense of accomplishment that comes from knowing that I have the mental capacity [and in my second or third camp, the physical capacity] to do just one more pushup than yesterday. I have also gained new friends who encourage me when I am ready to give up because I think I cannot go one more meter as I run uphill. The feeling I get at the finish line is awesome, almost triumphant, because I did win a race; the race against apathy, disillusionment and lost hope. We can all achieve great things.
For me, getting up and showing up at 5:30 a.m. on January 7, 2008 was the beginning of a great thing, a new life. It would be full of hope for a healthier, happier tomorrow."
